I'm not as much of a fan of this song as other people.

John Bonham/Phil Rudd eat your hearts out.
Both of them.
Both of them.

It is over.
That was completely gear, from start to finish, and ended on a high.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

Every album ever made should end with a completely over-egged multi-tracked gated echo.

Boy meets girl.Nightjar wrote:What the fudge is this song about?
Boy falls in love with girl.
Boy asks girl to marry him.
Girl says yes.
Boy has panic attack on wedding day and does a runner.

I can't ignore various prejudices I have about this album.
Really, even if I wanted to.
Despite my ill will (born of having to listen to it all the time AT THE TIME), it's just not that good an album.
In fact, the ELO sound at this time had started to become aggressively overripe.
Supremely assured from a technical perspective, but jarringly abrasive and charmless.
Still, beneath the aural ugliness and the production a-aesthetic-ality, there are actual songs - real Jeff Lynn songs, like what we all can't help but like and enjoy and dance about to.
Still...

Ohh, even when I was 10 I was overthinking it.
Probably.
For me it was all about a rolling, unceasing existential crisis that Wimp could never outrun due to his fundamental lack of self-worth.
Basically, his subconscious eggs him on to higher things and then eggs him on further once he's achieved said 'things' resulting in an endless, albeit ultimately destructive, dash upwards and upwards and so on and so on...
Unto death.
