Will I keep choosing the wrong Curtis Mayfield album to review?
Re: Curtis Mayfield - Roots (1971)
Classic serpentine Curtis guitar moves.

A bit like "The Thrill is Gone" by B.B. King.

He's really really unique and original.
There was no one before like him and there'll never be again.

It's like a complete reinvention of the tradition of the big jazz/R&B band format.
Ellington, Basie et al, as reimagined for the radical black consciousness era and the '70s musical aesthetic.

Showcasing his idiosyncratic loose, free-form method of revolving the music around a sweetly vague vocal performance.

Well, that was glorious.
One of his best albums.

Re: Curtis Mayfield - Roots (1971)
It is over.
It was perfectly proficient and had a good feel to it but the songs were very weak and every track went on for far too long.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.
