Anyway, IMO, that's both inaccurate (and a slur).
I always associate WBH with being really enthusiastic about more arty/proggy/avante-garde rock.
Y'know, like King Crimson or Beefheart or Curved Air, or *ahem* Alex Harvey...
And then, later, when punk and proto-punk came along he started singing the praises of stuff like Television and The Cars and Tommy Petty and XTC, like he was trying to pretend that the former genres hadn't really existed.
Remember the NY Dolls incident.
Ronnie Lane's too laid back, roots/bluesy - not 'clever' enough for him.
