Have you got a hedge trimmer that's on the end of a long pole? I bought one, a few years back, and it was a life-changing experience.

Can you point me in the direction of these? Whilst I made the move to thrilling modern battery-powered mowers several years ago I'm still cutting hedges with actual (extendable) shears.

I got mine from Argos, for £80. It was made by Challenge. The ones they have at the moment are by other brands but they're in the same price range and operate on the same principle.

Thank you. They all get good ratings. Do they go through slightly thicker branches? The more expensive Cilla Black & Carol Decker one doesn't say how long the battery lasts for.

The best thing for a big branch is a bow saw. No batteries, no nonsense, less chance of accidentally cutting your leg off.

I've never tried to cut through slightly thicker branches with mine. Therefore, I cannot say. However, I am led to believe that the gap between the teeth indicates the maximum width of branches that can be cut.

Oh, believe me I've used one many times. And screamed almost as many times when using one! A bow saw is okay up to medium branches but the amount of times I've got the saw stuck in the middle of a thick branch or trunk. I just want to slice through large branches and stumps like butter.
