Ironically, it's my turn to be confused about what day it is. I'm in Darlington, and normally I stop here on Sunday nights and take Monday off work to complete my journey to Glasgow.

But I've run out of annual leave, so I had to come here on Saturday. And it doesn't feel like Saturday. I'm completely sober for one thing.

We have a family funeral this week. People are arriving, sofas are being offered up. My mother is drinking bhang lassi in Southall, and apparently has been since lunchtime, and expects to be picked up. I suggested a nightbus and hung up.
