The year seems to be the main connection.
That's all it had to work with.

Kind of a 'slapped in the face wi' an Arbroath Smokie' experience.
I'll have to have a bit of think/lie down before I mark it.

Re: Jesse Rae – The Thistle (1987)
Well, that was a whole lot of 80s-tastic upbeat fun. On the whole I really, really enjoyed that, though I got a little restless towards the end and some of the tracks could have been a little bit shorter.
I admit I still have no idea who Jesse Rae is so this was a bit of a stab in the dark and it's nothing like I expected - other than the brief bagpipes at the beginning of the last track. The one main (mild) drawback for me was some of the tongue-in-cheek humour attached to most of the songs, leading to me to think I was listening to B.A. Robertson on occasion and not a genuine 80s pop album. But that's okay as it worked overall!
4.5/5 - rounded up to 5/5 for voting!

Proud Scot - hate everything English.
Pictured with Staffordshire bull terriers - one of England's most famous icons.
Oops, I didn't mean to make this political. :troll:

I think there's a level of projection on that one.
I'm sure I remember him saying he'd only take his Helmet off when Scotland was Freeeeedom! but apparently I made that up as I can't find any reference to it anywhere.

Lowest price on eBay: £4.99 in "good condition" - not too bad, but I only ever buy "very good".

I haven't bought anything for ages, so guess what I've got on its way.

Oh yeah, you created this thread so I guess I have you to thank! for me losing £7.99 of my hard-earned cash : rant:

This is just so surreal, seeing a Scottish man in a kilt and battle helmet singing and dancing to a famous disco "Odyssey song". It could be considered an odd live cover version and even all kinds of cultural appropriation, yet it's his own self-written song. Make it make sense.

Re: Jesse Rae – The Thistle (1987)
I didn't realise when we "did" this that the production is all done by black American musicians, with connections to Parliament-Funkadelic. That's why it really wasn't what I was expecting, judging by the front cover.
