I wouldn’t even consider winning the Olympics without a general anaesthetic to have it tattooed on first.

Apparently, Ireland's own TV coverage of the Olympics includes commentary on people who are part Irish but born and live overseas, and foreign people who have only briefly lived in Ireland ~~probably apart from evil English people who have lived in Ireland~~.

They did an unofficial race on the running track of the little remote controlled cars that fetch and carry the javelins and stones and things that the athletes throw! It's like a giant Scalextric. happy

Apparently that is an Irish thing. Everyone is filtered through the prism of Irishness. It’s already been determined that Kamala Harris may be descended from a slave holder from Ireland, so they were going quite heavily on that before it was pointed out that it might not be the kind of link to highlight. I thought Harris was a usually Scottish and sometimes Jewish surname, but evidently it is Irish enough for Ireland to take the hint and start wading through the records office - while conversely the Scots and Jews all stayed quite in case that was the link.
