I myself have just won £5 on the Set for Life lottery. Wisely invested, with a 4% withdrawal rate, that'll provide me with a comfortable 20p a year in my old age.

Actually I decided to spend £3.50 of it upgrading from ordinary gin to Tanqueray.

I nearly forgot to pay one of my credit card bills this month.

Mind you, last time I was a day late, they increased my credit limit.

I assumed credit card bills paid themselves.

Automatically.

I have the others paid automatically by direct debit, but this one I do manually, in case I don't want to pay the full amount.

Although that hasn't happened since January 1997 when I wanted a new computer to go with my new job.

I got some cash out of the machine at Tescos in Rutherglen today.

It gave me Scottish money! Now I can never go back!

Last night, I turned over in the night (I presume) to be woken by a fearful splintering noise and the sensation of falling. My bed had totally collapsed. I've had to buy a new one, that can't be delivered until Saturday. On top of the window replacement that ended up costing £2,900 before Christmas, I now wonder what fixtures, fittings, or otherwise essential goods might collapse from their moorings next.

Further to the Scottish banknote issue above, I found out that English self-checkouts accept Scottish notes quite happily.

How do you get rid of an embarrassing mattress? I've thought of dragging it out at 4am to abandon it in the gutter, but it's not that kind of area, and I'd probably end up on someone's CCTV anyway.
