The Darlington accent is funny; to me it sounds like a soft Geordie accent, in that it's more "standard" northern than Geordie (due to its proximity with Yorkshire) but with some of the north eastern quirks. I heard one older lady call someone "pet".

In the early 90s my best friend lived in the Orford Rd area, near St Mary's church, and she got married at that church.
Years later I made a new friend, whose dad, it turned out, had been the immediate next vicar at St Mary's after the one who conducted friend 1's wedding.

Last month it was Darlington, tomorrow I'm off in the opposite direction to Dorset, Devon and Cornwall for a week.
