For 30 years I've believed that bamba means 'lamb' but it doesn't!

There is a word bamba meaning a kind of silver coin, but I suspect the bamba in La Bamba derives from bambalear 'to swing, sway or wobble'.

The Spanish for lamb is el cordero, or la cordera if it's a girl lamb.
