I'll keep a look out for a flying blue shed.

I was out earlier and I didn't think it was all that terrible I have to say. I was looking forward to widespread destruction - I love the sound of a great storm. It's been intermittent.
I hope things pick up when it's time for bed. It can't get better than being cosy in bed, listening to real mayhem outside.

Re: The Weather Thread Part 2.
Here it has mostly only really been a typical "very windy day" - other than at about 1:30pm it suddenly went wild for about 10 minutes, with high winds and rain lashing all over the place. Then it stopped and went calm, the sun came out and I went outside to pick up all the twigs that had fallen down.
But the wind picked up again at about 6; nothing too out of the ordinary though.

Is that the Thuja Plicata conifer on the left that I seem to remember having a conversation with you about some time ago?
Incidentally, I cut down the biggest stem/branches on the buddleia on Saturday - two or three of them were so thick that I had to use the pruning saw - I hadn't cut it right down for I think two years but it's incredibly fast growing, in both height and branch thickness. I didn't cut all of the stems right down this time, just the thickest.

Re: The Weather Thread Part 2.
I'd want a higher fence than that. My friend has a low one like the one in the picture - I was over there in the summer, we went to sit outside and realised her neighbours were also out there.
It was too late and too obvious to retreat so we all made polite conversation for a couple of minutes and spent the rest of the evening pretending the other garden and those in it didn't exist.
Might be worth getting it made higher before it goes on the market.

It has gone really wild roadshow outside again!
I can hear the rain lashing against the window and the wind blowing down the chimney.

Yes indeed. It's way taller than me now. To think it fitted vertically in the car when I first brought it home.

The stem that's cracked on the fallen bit is too big for my pruning saw - I'll have to deploy the bow saw I used for cutting up the apple tree that fell on my garden from the other side two years ago.

My neighbours and I observe the same convention. I can't make the fence higher, it's in the deeds that the fences mustn't be higher than 3ft. They also say I can't run a fried food shop or keep a cart, carriage or wagon in the front garden. There were no planning laws in 1907 so they'd put those kind of covenants in instead.
Re: The Weather Thread Part 2.
The fence at the back isn't mine, in case you were wondering. It belongs to the people whose roof you can see over the top of it. My predecessor painted his side of it blue to go with the shed. I repainted the shed a couple of years ago, it's cheerful, isn't it?

It is very pretty. Last year a friend and I spent a happy weekend painting old church pews in vibrant neon shades before glueing Pat Butcher earrings and scattered rhinestones at artful intervals. It set his garden party off very well and the rhinestones twinkled nicely.
It's a bit disconcerting to discover that having fled from Radio 1 to 2 many years ago, the unbearable sh*t you were trying to escape from is now old enough to be turning up on Radio 2 as you go about your chores. We ended up listening to The Carpenters.
I feel your pain re:restrictions. A couple of anonymous neighbours objected to a short term billboard advertising deal I'd agreed in principle with JC Decaux and ITV2. The council also said it was a fire risk. Real shame - it would've paid everyone's council tax, service charges, household bills and some extras of their choice.
