In the 50s Radios had quite a high tax on them, but power amplifiers didn't, which is why so many hi-end audio stuff was made modular with all the power coming from the Power amplifier keeping the costs down on the radios.

Re: Breaking learning thread
I've just found out what those numbered knobs on the sides of my radiators are and what they're for.

I thought they were just knobs that you turn on and off.

Re: Breaking learning thread
They're for plumbers to use to 'balance' the radiators so that the level of heat throughout the house is nice and even.

Re: Breaking learning thread
Apparently, those are the knobs on the other side of the radiators; the ones without numbers. The ones with numbers are thermostats that set the maximum heat you'll allow the room to reach before the radiator switches off.

I knew the numbers were to do with thermostatting, but I thought those were the plumber-only ones.

I only know because this man's videos keep being recommended to me by YouTube.

I always turn my bedroom radiator knob up or down depending on how hot or cold my bedroom is compared with the rest of the house.

Re: Breaking learning thread
The output tube at the BBCDroitwich LW transmitter has a heater current rated 500A at 15v.

Re: Breaking learning thread
That's 7.5kW.

Re: Breaking learning thread
And that’s not the output, that’s just the low tension heater current!

Oh yes, the Droitwich masts were always a bit of a landmark when heading south on holiday on the M5, especially at night.

They don't look very exciting on Street View.

They also seemed much further from home than they actually are - you're pretty much only just outside of Birmingham.

Re: Breaking learning thread
Given the queues to see this attraction are so vast and so many thousands of people attending daily, this has surely got to be one of the UK's most popular attractions. I've no reason to drive up the M5 but if it's that popular they must be on to something ? I quite like watching people work but from other reviews it seems the chances of actually seeing work taking place are quite low unfortunately. I'll give it a tentative 4 star review but reserve the right to change that score if I get lost and find myself between Jct1 and 2 of the M5. Keep up the good 'work' Highways England.
