Shabby or Fabby?
Happy 50th birthday, Abbey Road!
Apparently, it's exactly 50 years to the day since this iconique demonstration of road safety technique came out.
Don't forget to give us your red hot opinions on it and vote in the special poll.

Haven't put the name of the band or the album on the cover. No one'll know who it is. Can't see it being a hit.

Happy birthday and all that.
This may not be the place to say so, but John Lennon leaves me cold. I don't understand how you can have next to nothing to do with your own child for years at a time, exclude them from your will (that should be illegal - and it is in most jurisdictions, we and the USA are pretty much unique in allowing that), and go on about love and peace and harmony.

I always think of Abbey Road as my favourite Beatles album but looking at the list of tracks in the poll I think I only particularly like "Something" and the end of "The End".

Re: Happy 50th birthday, Abbey Road!
I think the first track I ever heard from it was Octopus's Garden which we had on an old Pinky and Perky EP when I was little.

After that, the next tracks I heard must have been Something, Come Together and Here Comes the Sun, which I knew from Shirley Bassey and the Beatles Blue album, respectively.

I don't think I knew any of the other tracks until I heard the album itself, when I was 17. It's amazing how obscure the other tracks on it were, pre-Internet. I don't remember hearing any of them on the radio, ever, before then.

Anyrodeup, I have voted for Golden Slumbers/Carry that Weight/The End, a sequence which showcases McCartney's versatility as both a vocalist and a writer and which showcases the Beatles' group chemistry.

"You Never Give Me Your Money" for me.
Effectively the opening part of "Golden Slumbers/Carry that Weight/The End", the two tracks bookending the marvellous suite of music in between - the greatest, most ambitious, charming, funny, anarchic and delightful work the Beakles ever done.
Side 1 is a somewhat patchy, but all of side 2's really really good.
Something's a bit icky, Octopus's Quitchen is harmless rubbish.
I like Oh Darling and that long one at the end of Side 2 though.
Come Together's very good but suffers from overplaying.
Maxwell's Silver etc is arguably the worst song they/Macca ever did.
Worst than the Enoch Powell version of Get Back.

Hard to argue with No.1.

Hard to argue with No.22.
I'd put Paperbork Writer higher though.
And Hello, Goodbye lower.

They were never released as singles in Britain.
