Does anyone know what happened to Rifki in Midnight Express? Did he die or did he go through life from then on without a tongue? I've seen it a few times and I've never been clear on that.

The image for your Lady of a Certain Age video features something that looks like a postage stamp, but isn't. What we philatelists call a 'Cinderella' for reasons which now escape me.

Oh dear, I'm sorry about that. Someone once told me I had some fascinating stamps - Soviet, British India, Tristan de Cunha, events etc. Accidental, I keep letters from loved people. The idea that one day they won't mean anything to anyone is one of the most upsetting things in the world.
This on a postcard from Venice, from my grandmother, sent after a very traumatic time and a major depression when I went to her house for some peace - "Have tried to contact you several times but no reply. Hope you are feeling not too bad and life is becoming more smooth. Looking forward to seeing you when we return. Love Gran and Grandad X".
I just found that there in the drawer when I went to check the spelling of Tristan de Cunha. Little things like that more precious than anything else. Genuinely the most upsetting thing when my flat was broken into was seeing such things thrown across the floor and trodden on as of no value.

I always said smart motorways were a stupid idea.
It surely wasn't beyond the wit of man to see how badly wrong that would repeatedly go. The families of the victims should be given the amount of cash (plus interest) the government 'saved' by not adding enough lanes as it became clear they were needed.
Must be a similar type of team to the people who came up with autocorrect. Which twice mangled Tristan da Cunha despite my getting up to search for physical evidence of the spelling.

After research conducted by me by reading articles in two differently politically inclined newspapers that were obviously based on the same press release, my judgement is that this was not properly thought through. They could at least have tested it by leaving piles of cardboard boxes in the left-hand lane in different locations to simulate broken-down cars, and seeing how many lorries crashed into them.
I order that the this plan be reconsidered :judgerinder:
