Aaaaaaaand it's over.
It's a very good record that falls away badly throughout the mid-section of Side 2.
Yes, Side 2, for that is how I understand the record.

Well, I really enjoyed listening to that again.

It's Peter Jones, Voice of the Book.

It is over. That is an album which didn't sound like I'd expected it to. I'd expected 35 minutes of cartoon shouting and thrashing but got something musically far more accomplished. I felt the first half of the album was more enjoyable than the second, which started to drag with songs that went on too long and had too much musicianship on them.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everyone else made of it.

As did I.
Unfortunately the experience was marred somewhat by various other people semi-listening to it as well.

Re: The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette (1979)
It sounded like a good album, nice variety, but I'm not sure it withstood the test of time. I'd imagine I'd have loved it at the time if I'd heard it aged 15 or so.
Dare I suggest we try the Stranger's near concurrent album The Raven?
Which I suspect would have been disappointing at the time, but has dated far better?

Their last album was more 60s psych-pop than punk.
Didn't like it myself. Too nice.

Side 1 is better than side 2.
Unless the last track is pointless cover of the Beatles Heltier Skelter

It's gonna be fun tonight
Spreading news around the town
That the vicars are transvestites
With a fetish for robes and gowns
dunno, that sounds a bit like kink shaming. if I'm being real here.

Incredibly clever and original that.
