My telly can only cope with 1080p and it's cheap enough to not to matter if it doesn't work.

A thrilling phonecall from a friend who has left her husband finally, after about four attempts. I call him 'the Ken doll' because he's just hunky plastic. Admittedly very, but generic. I say just, but also a very nasty habit of undermining her.

She's calling back this evening to discuss. I've already offered access to my accountant, my financial advisor, my solicitor and my aromatherapist. I will never tell her he invited himself here last year and was politely (in the ballpark of politeness) sent back out into the night.

I know what he's like with her because as well as having watched it, walked out of it, and argued with him about it directly he's also done it to me. His technique is to make some deeply personal aspect of your life the joke of the table while casting quick flirtatious looks at you.

I've always found that really cowardly, and obviously unattractive from the off. Coming as I do from a family that has been escorted from many premises for our public airings immediately pressing matters, as well as our ability to apologise to each other without reservation, I can't help feeling our natural way is better.

The idea of being discreetly bullied over a period of years makes me feel very claustrophobic. I don't think we are all equally susceptible. We can all end up on the receiving end of someone horrible, but the kind of patience and silence and quiet forgiveness that's been her life would never be mine.

She's my age, he's 32. She's the reason 22 year old girls with bouncing breasts have to be turned away even when they find him to have the looks of a film star (he does), be an excellent dancer (he is), charming (he can be), and a good prospect for going home with (undoubtedly so). So he tells her relentlessly.

Well I can't move abroad. Apparently it's not on to expect a 12 year old to be fine with that. This is a 12 year old who called to say his scheduled return from Bosnia was being delayed by dinner in Vienna and a day of shopping tomorrow (and can money be sent to cover this, and an excuse be placed to the school). I've cancelled the chicken madras with plain nan that I'd ordered for him this evening.

You can delete posts on this forum, as long as no one's replied to them.

Saved me a few times that has.

I did delete them but I don't really mind. I was in a talkative mood in between phone calls but thought better of it.

I think you can only delete the very last post anyway, it has a cross in the options. Previous posts don't seem to.

This worked fine, only problem is I have to get up and press the button to turn change the source.

I was about to do a running commentary on Metropolis...

...then found out it's over two-and-a-half hours long.

As I have the week off work I'm drinking all the Prosecco we were given this Christmas.
Seems it was a popular gift this year!

It's a hard life sometimes.

A seriously bad day.

My Grandpa developed severe sepsis over night and nearly died as a result.

All through today his various vital signs have stabilised and indeed improved, but he remains in a critical, life-threatening state.

Over the course of today there were at least nine family members at his bedside and he did seem to be improving from an extremely delirious, disorientated start.

By the end of the day he was able to answer questions with genuinely lucid nods and shakes of the head and was beginning to attempt to form words and sentences.

A grim day - a massive step backwards - but hopeful.

The doctors seem amazed by his resilience.
