Re: Breaking learning thread
By being a lot less misogynistic than it used to.
I was leafing through some issues from the late 90s while in my storage unit the other week, and I was quite surprised by how much the tone of acceptable discourse had changed since then.
They were still quite funny to read though, especially the surrealistic Davy Jones strips.

It's not as funny as it used to be.

Pre-Golden Girls Bea Arthur and Betty White both 'stared' in remakes of Fawtly Towers.

I watched clips of Bea Arthur as Basil last year when I was having a lockdown Channel 5 Golden Girls binge.

Re: Breaking learning thread
Didn't Raquel Welch star in a remake of Fawlty Towers too?

Apparently, not, although she did say, "I’ve been trying to put together a sitcom for myself, and I’m always going back to study Fawlty Towers. Its tempo and the ensemble playing make it so funny and appealing — much more clever than American comedies."

Geraldine Newman, who played Hilda on the right, is still alive aged 87!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geraldine_Newman
They'd have only been 49 when it started.

Wasn't the character she was playing probably a bit younger?

Middled aged with a growing bitter resentment for not having children smouldering under the surface. I always thought.
I might have overthought it.

Re: Breaking learning thread
I was flicking through the channels the other night and The Apprentice Australia was on, with "Lord" Sugar. I think it must have been a celebrity version as one of the contestants was someone I hadn't seen on TV for ages - North East comedian Ross Noble - who it turns out now lives and works in Australia with his family.
