It's only the Rhythm
Re: Grace Jones - Slave to the Rhythm (1985)
Well, that was...
It didn't work. The remixes were poor, the speech was blandly slapped on top, the interviews simply didn't work as well they did on the Frankie B Sides, maybe a bunch of drunk Scouse lads are intrinsically more fun than Grace Jones?
And they were B sides, you can do that sort of thing on a B side, not an album

Like this:
That was much better than the extended 12" Mix we had for some reason in the album playlist.

Yes, the track listing we just sat through would have benefited massively from that being on it.WhatDoesThisButtonDo? wrote:WhatDoesThisButtonDo? wrote:So what does the album version of "Slave to the Rhythm" sound like?

I don't feel I can vote for an option that has 'I can't dance to this!' for a Grace Jones LP....
Yes, yes I can.

In fact I feel a bit guilty about suggesting yet another duffer, we can do that White Stripes err. Black Keys one tomorrow if you want.

I've just got the Jones the Rhythm joke.

This sounds like the sort of thing everyone does in the first half hour when they get hold of a recording studio.

Is this the "Huhh!" bit?

It's the long 12" mix..
Err.. sorry about that.
I think my CD version just has the single version of Slave to the Rhythm.
I bought this album years ago hoping for the extended version as I already had the single version on the Island Life compilation. I still don't have the extended version on CD, but I do have it on the Slave to the Rhythm 12" picture disc.

Like when you get a Welsh village and everyones called Jones, so you get Jones the Baker, Jones the Butcher and here we have Miss Jones, The Rhythm.

Every '80s synth-strings noise thrown at this.
