Lydia Luncheon or Hideous Truncheon?
Re: Lydia Lunch - Queen of Siam (1980)
Deceptively complex.

Re: Lydia Lunch - Queen of Siam (1980)
Tis over.
What a terrific album.
Consider when it was recorded and the general milieu that other post-punk, new wave, noise and No-Wave bands were immersed in - what they were trying to do to challenge and upset.
Not any of this.
Quite amazing really.
Taken as a whole it would've taken a hold of a young, receptive mind like Manson.
NYC makes a lot of claims on post-war, modernist and postmodern culture and this album is as good an example (and queasy fever dream combo of the lot) as any.

Re: Lydia Lunch - Queen of Siam (1980)
It is over.
Even though it was all too emotionally detached for my liking, it didn't bore me, apart from one track. Mostly, it managed to throw in enough surprises to stay interesting. Therefore, overall, I approved of it.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

What's more, LL's involvement with JG Thirwell (professionally and personally) is, amongst those who know or care to know about these things, well known, but the use of a demented, bilious big band jazz sound predates anything ol' Foetus did in this fashion by several years.

The cassettes were destroyed in a tragedy that rivalled the Universal Music Group fire.WhatDoesThisButtonDo? wrote:The Call of the Wendigo wrote:It reminds me of the songs I was writing - and recording - when I was 15.
Audio samples or it didn't happen.

it was more like 3.5 but we don't have a 3.5 option in the poll.Nightjar wrote:The Call of the Wendigo wrote:I shall give it 4 stars for effort.

That's levelled out by ButtonZ'z stingy score.

This didn't involve someone having a bit of a 'tidy out' when you were away did it?
