Newman or eew, man!
Re: A.C. Newman - Shut Down the Streets (2012)
It is over.
That was a very undistinguished album with tunes that never managed to become interesting or to find anything that resembled a successful hook. Vocally, it was no more than workmanlike..
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

Oh well.
It's done.
A.C. Newman's not my favourite artist but he does have a lot of unassuming and gently expressed talent.
A fair percentage of his songs (even the really good ones) will often drift, lose focus or start going la la la etc, but I feel a lot of affection towards him and his own personal vision (brand?) of gentle power-pop/rock.
He also has a way of obliquely introducing deeply painful and personal stuff into his deceptively opaque lyrics.

All the very best recording artists score 2.7 in the Nu-HotW.

What did the last one - that Wendi recalled with such deep resonance - score I wonder?

Apparently, I gave that one 3 stars because it reminded me of Pilot and the Bay City Rollers.
He should have made this one sound more like Pilot and the Bay City Rollers.

He doesn't have the emotional core, musically, to be able to be Jackson Browne.

At least he didn't murder Daryl Hannah.
