I'm going to a gig tonight. ![Excited](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/4075307247.gif)
Meaning I just had to do a Covid test.![bawl](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/540545940.gif)

Re: What's happening in your life? Part 2
I went into a busy charity shop today and hardly anyone was wearing a mask; one woman near me kept occasionally letting out a single light cough, another maskless woman came and stood over me looking at DVDs on an upper shelf as I knelt down flicking through the CDs, and to top it all off I overheard a shop worker telling another worker that she'd just received a phone call saying that her daughter had been sent home from school with a high temperature and a cough. By this point epic levels of Covid anxiety came over me and I stormed out of the charity shop after purchasing three CDs for £1.

I've accidentally smashed an valuable plate which my great-great-aunt apparently brought back from Japan, where she was a missionary till 1941.
I didn't know any of this until after the accident![bawl](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/540545940.gif)

Possibly.
I have offered to pay for the repairs.

Don't forget to gather up all the tiny pieces and flakes with a dustpan and brush.
Keep them separate in something like an old camera film canister.
Anyone who might be given the job of repairing the plate will be grateful for those bits.
Is it porcelain?
Or perhaps earthenware?
Post a picture of the mess if you can and I'll cast my beady eye over it.![aristojar](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/2591357779.gif)

Are there are any crumbs and flakes of glaze left over also?
I mean, if you 'offer up' two matching broken pieces (ensuring the two broken edges are properly flush) how much of the glazed surface pattern has been lost at the broken seams?
There's a good bit from The Repair Shop where a plate's restored.
That'd give you a good idea of how a porcelain plate restoration is done.

BTW, I think I can repair it in Photoshop. ![box](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/2226079238.gif)

Re: What's happening in your life? Part 2
Interesting, so it's flakes of glaze that are important rather than flakes of filler from the back. That makes sense.

Filler?
Do you mean just small bits of the porcelain body?
I'm assuming that the back of the plate is glazed as well (apart from the underside of the footring, where the plate made contact with the bat/shelf in the kiln during firing).
BTW, any flakes of glaze with pattern on them are only really useful if they're large enough to be realistically reattached or at least can give the restorer an accurate idea of how to accurately fill in the painted design afresh.

Re: What's happening in your life? Part 2
I did mean bits of the body yes. My thinking was that it wouldn't matter if the glaze on the back had bits missing post-repair, given that it's just an ornamental plate.
