Re: Painting and decorating
I can't believe it's a year since the great repainting saga.
Now the paint, wall and house are but a distant memory. And everything I have is contained in my little car and this hotel room in Glasgowand my four storage units.

I painted all the exterior woodwork on my house a couple of weeks ago, I am not going to put any pictures up untill I have done the walls because they look really shabby now.
I will do them in the spring.
Not sure what year though.

Huge thanks once again. NJ was right. It looks totally different during daylight. The emulsion provided more than sufficient coverage. My living room no longer looks like a shrine to Barbara Cartland. It's a light, clean, white space for life.
I can see why that roller has a royal warrant, I feel guilty for my premature judgement of its capabilities. It doesn't require any chemicals to clean either - and it spins really fast under the bath tap (the recommended method), which is quite fun.

Got the horrible tiles removed from the upstairs toilet. Replastered the walls and painted them a lovely sky blue. It is now a very tranquil and calming place to do a poo.

Re: Painting and decorating
I would like to donate an excess mirror to my mother. For the staircase in her flat. It's a very heavy mirror, gilt framed, about six feet long. Heavy enough to struggle with.
I keep it in my hallway, but I'm changing the look. I really want reassurance that it would be safe. As in not liable to fall off and result in a fatal accident. It's very heavy.
Her hallway stairs are kind of this idea...
That's not it exactly - that's the best I could find on google images. You see, the wall section above, so you have to pass underneath it to get down. That's where it would go. Hers is quite a bit taller than that example, but that idea. Is that a safe place for a very heavy item containing something as potentially dangerous as a broken mirror, or would nobody do anything so stupid?

Re: Painting and decorating
I wouldn't risk it. I've got a similar section above my stairs and it's, basically, just hardboard.

It's my mothers flat. As far as we can make out, the heating system was installed in 1967 - and it's not happy, as it often tells everyone including the neighbours. It's just like anyone else's mothers flat.

Yes, that's the trouble I'm troubled with. I have visions of the wall giving way and it all crashing down on her as she passes under it.
I took the bannister rail off one side (it didn't match the one on the other side) and that seemed not too sturdy - I could feel the wall give a little as I wrenched the last screw out in a temper.

Anyway, I object to that snark. We live a humble lifestyle here. We don't spend endless thousands on tech and upgrades and all the rest. I merely choose to spend my money differently, and accept gifts of other types of things to what might be the norm.

Living an humble existence doesn't change the fact that your homes are all carved from titanically huge solid precious gemstones.
They were carved by aliens a billion years ago.
These are the facts.

Re: Painting and decorating
Yes, well, geologically speaking that may be accurate. But it still leaves me with a mirror I'd prematurely set aside as a centre piece of my mother's hallway redec.

I agree. Additionally, a mirror should never be placed at the bottom of stairs, and this situation would be dangerously similar I think.

Why should a mirror never be placed at the bottom of the stairs? Is it unlucky or something?

Re: Painting and decorating
In case someone tumbles down the stairs and smacks their head into it. Horrific!
