Court and Spark or Knife and Spork?
Re: Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark (1974)
Very effective use of multi-tracked vocals.

Re: Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark (1974)
This is a pretty silly way to end such an album.

I don't have a clue what she's on about now.

It is over.
It was never going to appeal to me, with its Cocktail Jazz chords, its extemporisational tunes and the total emotional detachment of the vocals.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

It's flawed gem that.
After "Down To You" the album seems to slip into a kind of languid, faintly lazy even, reverie.
The final track is more-or-less pointless.
A vanity piece on an album barely 36 minutes long.
Shame really.
I think it's my 4th or even 5th favourite JM album despite its wall-to-wall acclaim.
Kind of like her Dark Side of the Moon, or Lonely Peppers.
Actually, no, it's way better than Lonely Peppers.

Considering Wendi's 'p*ssholes in the snow' review and marking...
★★★★★
Seems that no matter what, Joni will never be appreciated - dare I say understood - on this forum.

Re: Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark (1974)
I cannot understand emotional detachment.

I'll not be putting forward another Joni Mitchell album for commentary consideration again.
Joni is pure emotional engagement.
It's universally acknowledge, usually by her critics, as one of her most significant faults.
An overweening narcissism and all that.
Every song she virtually ever wrote was about some relationship with a man (or female friend).
