I'm keeping the curtains closed as before. But my phone has to go on the windowsill, in the hot zone, because that's where the signal is best.

I've made a little paper roof for it to keep the sun off.

I tried foil at first, but I was being too clever for my own good, because of course that blocked the signal as well as the sunlight.

Still 27 degrees. I'm starting to suspect my thermometer can't go above 27 degrees.

I've now hit 27.5 degrees.

Isn’t it exciting. All my aches and pains have eased off.

My bedroom peaked at 25.9 degrees this evening - .2 of a degree lower than the day before.

No, it's my least favourite choice too. But they do have things that Morrisons don't, so when those two are the only choice, Asda it has to be.

Still stalling just below 25 degrees here. I haven't yet got to the "sweaty legs" stage during this heatwave, where I become concerned that I might get electrocuted by my laptop resting on my own sweat.

I drive to one occasionally because some of the discounts on branded items are very good, but it takes a lot of preparation and psyching up. Without being all Hyacinth, I usually drive to Mitcham to be sure nobody I know could ever possibly see me in one - unless they are prepared to publicly admit to being out there in the same one. I’m always amazed by the hordes of large people in the ice cream aisle, so I save that one for last for a good look at them.

If you’d said ‘which supermarket chain has ripped open bags of ice discarded about the place in a heatwave?’, I’d have guessed Asda. I did like their original mint green colour scheme, with black marble deli counters and cool blue type. The Walmart years seemed to be the harbinger of the grass green plastic look, and a general lack of cleanliness, boxes scattered about the floor etc, which is where it’s remained. It’s an unpleasant assault on the senses.

I got 2 bags of ice from the orderly ice freezer at Sainsburys today.

Still currently stalling at 25.5. My beshorted legs with laptop still aren't sweating. I'm warm but not boiling.

28 degrees. Has it peaked for this year?
