This doesn't belong on an album from 1979.

At least Carl's singing.
Mike Love's still trying to showing off with his bass register.
Truly the man is Satan.

Yes, it's the kind of Catalogue Raisonné*p they'd pad out one their late '6s albums.

It is over.
That was a very mixed album. The singles were good and the Disco number worked better than expected but most of the rest was dull and dreary.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

Well, I love and despise that record in equal measure.
It's another example of what are - without doubt - the most disfunctional band of all time.

Re: The Beach Boys - L.A (Light Album) (1979)
My final score does not bear very much similarity with sanity or normalcy.
Basically, once you get deep into the BB's story and the traumatic fluctuations and various glistening heights and abject depths and the genuinely good, bad and ugly of the band's various players then everything they do - regardless of how utterly bizarre or dreadful or downright amazing - becomes fascinating.
Embarrassing, car crash, autopsy, infected cyst bad all the way through to sublime, inspired, joyous and genuinely brilliant works of prodigious genius...
It all combines at 'the end of the day' into a soap opera wherein those tragic/comic faces what you see on the curtain of Saturday Night at the Bolton Pavilion.
Bob Monkhouse used call it Janus, but he was wrong.
Janus is another thing altogether.
