Re: The Beach Boys - The Beach Boys Love You (1977)
A bit of background/word of warning about this Beach Boys album...
This is from 1977 and was supposed ostensibly to be the long awaited reunion of all of the main players and core members who'd all been fighting various neuroses, psychoses, drug addictions, nervous breakdowns and all-round disfunctionality and bitter in-fighting.
So, anyway, Brian's back, writing virtually all the songs.
Dennis, Carl, Mike and Al are all back.
What could go wrong, eh?
Well, this is a truly bizarre album.
Brian plays, in the style of a demented fairground ride, a MiniMoog throughout and the lyrics are frequently rambling, anecdotal and, at times, completely childlike and inane.
Anyway, I've said too much already.
It's quite a ride.
Basically, I'd recommend reading the Wiki page on it.
It is genuinely interesting and reflects the album's profound bizarreness very well.

Oh, apparently not.
Although I'd prefer to do this than Spinal Tap.

No. It's got better music than half of the stuff we do*, and there's plenty of talking points, which you've already listed..
* Or is it? There's only one way to find out,
album running commentary

The Beach Boys Love You is not an album that can be judged by other albums or standards.
It is weird.
It is unique.
It deserves to be paired with something equally baroque.
