I think part of your problem is that the pound's been regaining strength this last week or so. In dollar terms bitcoin has only fallen 2-3% since you bought in.

What I've heard, from snooping around the Internet, is that a bunch of people with loads of Bitcoins are expected to dump them on the 31st, for clever financial reasons I don't understand, and that's driving the price down in anticipation of it.

In anticipation of the price rising after the big dump, I've just bought an extra £40 of Bitcoin which is all I'm willing to commit ever for at least the next month.
