Clues or stick it up your flues?
Re: Robert Palmer - Clues (1980)
The actual song is pathetic isn't it? Is this one of those one of the side 2 of Hard Days Night or something?

Gary Numan actually played keyboards on the cover of "I Dream of Wires".

It's a shame Numan never recorded an album at Compass Point.
I guess that this is as close as we'll ever get to hearing how that might've sounded like.

What an odd song. I think I might need to listen to it again to see if I like it or not.

Bovvie-esque Arabian synths like off of "Secret Life of Arabia".

Re: Robert Palmer - Clues (1980)
It is over.
It was a competent album that, perhaps, lacked a certain something, in the final analysis.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

Wasn't sure what I was expecting, but I like it, 4 little black stars, with one white.
Or one not filled in,
And I do like the last one.

Well, I thought that that was on the whole, smashing.
Unpredictably engaging, daring at times, faintly ordinary at moments too few to bother with and ultimately quite a triumph.
Johnny and Mary is a triffic song as well.
The covers were gr8 too.

Loses a point for the rockist second track, and the writing of the Beatles,
And being too short.
And being too short.

I agree, it could've done with one extra good song to elevate its slightness.
However, if that hypothetical song had been rubbish - or even a bit ordinary - it might've ruined things.
Think about it.
