It were what it were.
A slightly half-*rsed congealing of session musicians riffing on various soul and early reggae motifs and tunes.
The Champ is interesting not so much because it's been sampled by so many hip-hop artistes, but more that it's a kind of 'sample' in itself.
Like, weirdly, unintentionally, paradoxically original.
Still, as an album, it simply didn't work.
A workmanlike, albeit not dislikable, curio at best.
