Ultimately a case of them being stalwarts of the grass-roots UK folk scene and having lots of more illustrious and successful pals who were eager to chip in and help out.

Some bright spots along the way - and a couple of suitably dour 'our people were poor/drunk and crushed 'neath boot' numbers, but - the folk equivalent of Lonely Peppers?
