I wouldn't really say that DD was ahead of her time.
She was just genuinely quite weird.
Like, she looked like the prettiest girl at school, who could easily'v'd been a casual, but who dressed like a Goth, but actually made weird music that neither Goths nor casuals wouldn't like.
