The way she's vocally straining and shrieking these memories don't seem so precious.

No, not in the USA.
Still isn't.
Other than amongst people of Latin American origin.
Across all of Latin America it's very common.

Her first album was 1939, a proper album, with 6 78rpms in it!

I have a faint memory of it being illegal to name your kid Jesus.
That may be unholy bobbins however.

Re: Sister Rosetta Tharpe - Gospel Train (1956).
It is over.
That was an album filled with songs that got straight to the point, didn't outstay their welcome, and were magnificently sung.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.![Excited](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/4075307247.gif)

It was a common name, the guy who lead the Jewish rebellion that lead to the destruction of the temple in AD 79ish was called Jesus.

I'm listening to the next track on the playlist. It's fab with a gear guitar solo and a sax solo. ![happy](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/2622191953.gif)

Re: Sister Rosetta Tharpe - Gospel Train (1956).
It's only common in connection to its connection to the name Joshua (and variations thereof). ![Colbert](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/586931285.gif)
