Re: The Yardbirds - The Yardbirds (1966)
It is over.
It was refreshingly free of the tweeness that seemed to afflict so many bands of that era but it wasn't all that inspired in the songwriting or singing stakes.
Noe to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

As far as mid 60 British Blues boomers go, that was really good. very period though. Now to look back and see what everyone else has got wrong.

Re: The Yardbirds - The Yardbirds (1966)
Hard to wrap my already febrile and omnipresent mind around that.
I think I'l just say that, although it wasn't at any point genuinely gr8, it was also a genuinely odd confection - not in a bad way.
A proper 'curate's egg'.
My assessment about it being a mash up of ruff-stuff re-recorded in-studio and latterly more sophisticated, experimental/psychedelic stuff composed and recorded once they had access to better technology and accompanying engineers and production stands (IMO).
Obviously ahead of it's time regarding the release date, but only just.
Ultimately, interesting rather than really very good.

Also - and I don't mean this glibly or dismissively - perhaps a switch from the live booze-driven experience to a more relaxed and more 'sophisticatedly' druggy environment?

I've been generous in my mark.
Perhaps not (I mean, who am I FFS?).
It were a quite vivid and chaotic aural snapshot of a fleeting culturally significant moment.
