I watched the proper cut of that just the other day.
It's considerably better and quite different in many respects.
I've always thought it was underrated, but now I think it's actually very good.
Impossible to get anywhere it's predecessors of course, but it makes way more sense and the lots of of the characters don't feel like they just get wiped out so early for no reason.
I also felt that the deaths of Hicks and Newt (probably the aspect of the film that people rail against the most) had a perfect narrative logic to it in light of what occurs subsequently in the film.
