No.

It's much better than that.

Kiss suck the f***s out of a dead dog's ********.

I've not heard anything on this as good as World Without Heroes.

It is over.

It was an over-stuffed mess with the production not allowing the songs to either breathe or find their own way.

Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it. Excited

The only other track I know by them sounds like Ray Stevens' I Need Your Help, Barry Manilow. shifty

Let's remind ourselves how that track goes:

Yep. That's I Need Your Help, Barry Manilow alright. yes

Well, I didn't love that but I didn't hate it either. The vocals were quite awful in places and there were some rather bland moments throughout, but a little bit of quirkiness thrown in occasionally to make it a bit more interesting than the generic rock album.

It was on 2.5/5 for a lot of it; I'd probably upgrade it to about 2.8/5 by the time the ending came in.

...rounded up to 3/5 for voting!

I had very high hopes for this album, based on the two famous tracks on it. bawl

Well, perhaps at some point we should do a proper Tubes album for a change.

This isn't it.

And that completely awful/totally brilliant song off of the Xanadu OST doesn't count neither.

Ultimately, it's a Todd Rundgren album (I hope you've been paying attention, people stare) and, weirdly, a better Todd Rundgren album than what Todd Rundgren was making around that time.

Utopia included.

The Tubes are kind of just used as a 'name' and variously as session musicians on their own album.

I think it helped their sales though.

So, in Todd we trust I s'pose.

Also, as a postscript, re: Todd.

I love him and it's an incontrovertible fact that he's both a wonderful, gentle, eccentric man and a wonderfully eccentric musician who's also insufferably prolific, mercurial and frustratingly detached from  the mainstream despite the fact that his songs still turn up in adverts and films all the time*.

*keeps him in chips

I think that, at some point, we should do one of his 'big' albums, but not for a good bit - and not without a lot of advance warning and a thorough greasing up of the loins with room-temperature L'ARRRD-UH!
