Mines alright, and isn't it older than yours?
Blimey!
Mines a 2014 model and I got it 2016, I think.

Re: Pixies – Planet Of Sound (1991)
My iMac (27" ) is a late 2013 model.
So, a decade old.
Also, cos I'm not a Tefal-headed techie or Poundland bolt-ons weirdo I've never done a thing to it.
AND, since 2019 when Catalina upgraded to Big Sur my computer has refused to follow suit.
So, I'm trapped at a Catalina impasse.
So shut your holes the lot of you.
Unless you want to help me improve my pooter's performance that is.

I'd be tempted to do a full OS reinstall, reboot holding down the Option-Command-R keys at the same time.
You have got a full back up though?
And it easy to add memory to that model:

Re: Pixies – Planet Of Sound (1991)
I converted my Windows laptop to Linux Mint, around 4 years ago, when Windows 7 was discontinued.
Is it possible to do likewise with an Apple machine?

Yeah you could, but who would want to go from a Unix certified operating system to a Linux one,

Re: Pixies – Planet Of Sound (1991)
The video below goes through how it's done.
It shows you how to install Ubuntu but I get the feeling Ubuntu isn't popular anymore. You can use the same process to download and install Linux Mint Xfce instead. I went for Xfce on my laptop as it's less demanding on old computers.
Linux Mint can be downloaded here: https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=307
You don't have to permanently install it. You can just run it from the pen drive, using that as an external SSD. You only have to permanently install it on your computer once you've decided you're happy with it.
Don't forget to backup your files before permanently installing it.
