Re: The Shamen - In Gorbachev We Trust (1989)
- Spoiler:
Seeing as I'm out tonight, don't worry I only mentioned it about 3 times…
I'm in!
1: Synergy
BANG BANG BANG! Where's the late 60s whimsey of their early stuff?
Is this Jesus Jones?
Does it predate Jesus Jones?
Vocals a bit low in the mix. Or maybe it's just the slight weedy sound?
Still,
MDMAmazing!
Is that the Star Trek door sound being used as part of the percusion? Guitar is back.
Yes, Star Trek samples. Well, it's slightly better than Bladerunner. Maybe. No Mr. C
2: Sweet Young Thing
Does sound a bit late 80s 'industrial' No Mr. C, so far. Reminds me of something, and not just the usual suspects like Cab. Voltaire.
3: Raspberry Infundibulum
Is that a new type of Crytopcurrancy? Gone all fey! Oh, Jesus Jones are back. Or is it EMF?
Oh hang one, they're having a fight with Brian Jones now.
Prince bit.
The first Jesus Jones album was the same year, and it contains a song called 'Move Mountains'
No Mr. C.
4: War Prayer
Little bit of politics there. How stunning and brave of them to say War Am Bad.
Mr C. would have done more with the idea. Drums are back. Keyboard patches. Samples. Actually it's alright if very 1989.
5: Adam Strange
Backwards guitars 60's. No Mr. C. This is how I remember the first album. Before they remembered they always had a dance element to their sound.
All Tomorrow Parties bit. Or is it all Tomorrow's Parties? I can't remember. My mind has been blown by the flange overload.
lol, flange.
End of side 1, I shall have my shower before commencing the second half.
Back again!
6: Jesus Loves Amerika (Fundamental)
Oh, one of those ones. Seriously though that voice, he really does sound like… Mike Edwards out of Jesus Jones.
Going for the hard targets on this one! Maybe they got the idea from Frank Zappa to have a go at Billy Swagart or whatever his name was?
Wait till his time comes, I bet he grovels to THE LORD.
err.. sorry. Don't know what came over me then. Anyway, I bet Mr. C would have handled that better.
Track 7, Transcendental
Acid house. sample of thingy. Oh dear, cultural appropriation. Vocals! Don't think that's Mr. C.
Wonder what the one with the neck did? I hope he did the 303 squelches.
Track 8: Misinformation
Samples. No Mr. C. Singing. Prince is back.
Was that a Blake's 7 sample then?
Track 9 Raptyouare
With a title like that it has to have Mr. C on it!
Bit of Acid house, bit of Acid Rock. I'm running out of things to say…
I just can't help thinking Cabarete Voltaire did this better. About 5/3 years previously.
Last one, title track.
Short wave radio. politics. Music's a bit, err B side ish.
Hand on, bass guitar.
I've just noticed, for a 'dance' album, there's a complete lack of any bass to get my feet a groovin'. Till now.
Anyway it is over, can't wait to read what you all write.
S'alright. V. of its time. You didn't need to be told they were a fey guitar janglers who had their first Vera.

None of their famous songs seem to be on this.

Sounds like a cross between Cabaret Voltaire and EMF.
