What on earth am I watching the excretable Loose Women for?

They’re talking about Mrs Bobbit. The lead panellist is coming out with some serious revisionist framing about how the media was run by men. If that was so, the coverage - which I’m sure we all remember - wouldn’t have been so salacious and even admiring. Linda Robson, bless her, keeping it real with the fact there were jokes, etc, everywhere - ignored. Their own Janet Street Porter was a powerful media mover and shaker of the time - I think she was actually a newspaper editor, and there were other female editors and many powerful female columnists. It wasn’t the dark ages.

I think this is unbelievable sexual violence, exactly on a par with taking a knife to a woman’s genitalia or breasts to cut parts or the whole off. It’s astonishing, sick making extreme sexual violence. If someone’s abusing you or cheating on you, you leave them. At most you might kill them in genuine self defence and then admit what you’ve done and why. To take a scalpel to their penis, testicles, vagina, or breasts is on a whole different level. I don’t know what they’re banging on about. One of them now going on about how she feels such empathy. Empathy FFS. Imagine four men sitting around on daytime television saying they feel empathy for some nutcase who sliced off his wife or girlfriends breasts because she was cheating on him or controlling his life - I think they’d all be unemployed by 2pm today, at the very latest.

Anyway, they’ve done three minutes of that and moved on to a chat about hugging.
