That pronunciation of 'road' is extraordinary, to modern ears a combination of posh and common. A sort of phonetic/sociolinguistic fossil.

I thought so too. At some points she unexpectedly has almost a Cockney inflection, but she lived in Kensington and worked in Paris.
The pitch and speed of it reminded me of my great grandmother (1893-1996) - my mothers grandmother, who was RP for want of a more fitting category.
