Context was being provided just at the moment you demanded it.

Re: The Weather Thread Part 2.
Somewhat overcast after a night of surprisingly strong winds & rain. I probably should go out for a walk, but I can't be bothered.

There were some impressively squally showers to contend with on the motorways - coming over Shap, then again near Blackpool, again on the last bit of the M6 and then a really violent one after Northampton.

Is the way forward clear and pointing north of the border?

Re: The Weather Thread Part 2.
It certainly is. The only issue is the implementation - if I want to move in the next year the financials are uncertain, whereas at the opposite extreme if I could put up with my current situation for 5 years I could, at the end of that time, move north, put my feet up and spend the rest of my life painting saltires on my toenails if I so desired.

Well, what a dilemma. Ideally you want to be up there before and during the fight for liberty so you're on the right side of history, and the right side of the border to safeguard your human rights.
If you leave it until after, they might treat you the same way the UK is looking forward to treating anyone who has the temerity to be a rootless cosmopolitan who isn't in total agreement with a small cabal of evildoers. That is, as welcome as an erection in a convent, with an easily motivated raging mob of useful idiots ready to point that out in between episodes of mouth foaming.
As someone who moved to a foreign country, and moved out of it, my tuppence worth is that there's danger in thinking too deeply about it all. I made both decisions on the spur of the moment (and the first was literally a coin toss, while stoned, between Athens and Lisbon), and despite all the grief and misfortune and financial complications that resulted, there was enough vitality and good fun in both that I don't fundamentally regret either decision.

Re: The Weather Thread Part 2.
I wonder, would it be presumptuous to start a separate thread so I can ramble about my moving plans without holding up discussion of the weather etc.

Re: The Weather Thread Part 2.
Once again, one of my favourite ever comments in The Guardian has appeared under an article...
Instead of A Place In The Sun, a revamped version entitled A Place In The Sh*t sees sunburned British pensioners, with faces like thunder, being shown around the bedsits and caravans they can afford back home, when the penny drops that without a firm job offer and a language fluency certificate, a 90 day per year maximum for a third country citizen applies both ways.

Sorry. I know you already set up such a thread. Happy to take this there.

Re: The Weather Thread Part 2.
Gosh, I'm getting old, I forgot that I'd already started a special thread.
