It is 7:08 pm and the sun is setting. The sky is gold upon the horizon and pale blue everywhere else. The only clouds are just above the horizon and are dark.

Her horizon is dark with gathering clouds. We could all be seconds from a nuclear flash across the heavens, left with life for just long enough to panic with the awareness we have become X-rays.

I have been watching a lot of videos lately about the Younger Dryas event, around 12,000 years ago, and how it was probably caused by a cometary impact that wiped out most of the world's megafauna and is probably recorded in stone age art at places like Göbekli Tepe. It has given me a fresh appreciation for a peaceful sunset.
