Heart of Stone or Fart of Gnome?
Re: Cher - Heart of Stone.
But which is the best version of Heart of Stone? Cher's or Bucks Fizz's?

And the poll title "Heart of Stone or Fart of Gnome?".

Re: Cher - Heart of Stone.
Merging the two threads means it's now impossible to edit the poll.

You can't edit the poll once someone's voted.
Well, I can't as a pleb, I dunno about forum owners.

Re: Cher - Heart of Stone.
BTW, I recall that, back in the early '90s when I used to hitchhike on the M4 to see my pals in Bath and Brizzle most weekends, I was picked up given a lift by a swarthy, be-stubbled, gold sovereign ringed, mirrored aviator glasses wearing Welsh trucker who insisted that I both listen to a Cher cassette and actively appreciate it.
It was a very special album for him and his ex-wife apparently.
Anyway, I can always remember a song where Ms. Sarkisian crooned lyrics that went a bit "like a queen without a king, like a bell without a ring, like a bird without a wing, etc...".
After a bit I glazed over and started exploring all the lyrical possibilities: "Kong without a King, pong without a ping etc..."

Re: Cher - Heart of Stone.
I also remembering an anecdote he told me about how he came to spend some time behind bars a few years previously.
He explained to me that he was entirely innocent of all charges and was merely trying to help the police officer up from the pavement - before turning to me and saying - with a sunlit glint of his dark glasses, a sly grin and no small portion dark glee - "yes, with my boot".

Re: Cher - Heart of Stone.
Anyway, we shall see whether the 'Ping-Pong-Song' features on this venerable elpee.
I'm predicting that it will.

Much unwarranted cynicism here. I know I speak for Butterfield as well when I say that those who don't appreciate Cher fail only themselves. Heart of Stone is her best work and the album is expertly assembled and arranged as a tempestuous love story of impressive depth and scope.

Re: Cher - Heart of Stone.
Wait till the review's over, missy.
It was a long time ago that that Cambrian trucker forced me to listen to that Cher album in return for 75 miles of his space-time.
I was probably only 23 or so.
Time may have tempered my bile and mellowed my disposition.
I may now find it a meisterwerk of the zeitgeist.
Of course it is a meisterwerk of the zeitgeist by default, but this time I might find it quaintly joyous.

Re: Cher - Heart of Stone.
The great question is, is If I Could Turn Back Time the tailending of a previous relationship, and the following Just Like Jesse James the beginning of the next? With the following songs a chronological account of the second relationship?
That's what I've always thought.
I wonder how she managed to f*ck Gene Simmons. The young Rob Camiletti and the young Tom Cruise are much more enticing prospects for an ageing star, I'd have presumed.

Why is always the hardest question.
