The art of window dressing
It struck me while out and about earlier that we have nowhere to celebrate, mock, be inspired by, or simply share the weird and wonderful and woeful window displays that we all pass every day.
Apart from architecture itself and technology, this format is possibly the greatest volume of visual artistic endeavour that most people see from day to day, and yet we give it so little thought.
I plead that we should each take part marinating in this actually rather skilled and very democratic craft, the marriage of creation and commerce, and the opportunity it gifts us to walk on by or look longer.
I will begin...

On the shutters of Greggs I once saw someone had written
'Go on Tracy, show us your pink bits"

I'm not sure shutters are part of a window display. But please do post such examples for everyone's visual pleasure. It's a democratic subject.
Did Tracey show her pink bits off? Someone once wrote on the bricks in my front door alcove 'Candice swallowed Mo's load here 11/3/10'. Or whatever the date was. They'd drawn a love heart around the message. We had to have the bricks involved sanded down because it wouldn't scrub off.

Once saw a 'Jamie is a user' on a lamppost once. That tickled me.
Glasgow, of course.

Not in the same league as those but we have a Fenwicks in town where the Christmas display is unveiled to incredulous locals after much hype.

It wasn't always a Fenwicks, it used to have its own Ginnibag & Knitwoddle style name.

Isn't that pretty. I've heard Fenwicks window displays in Newcastle are very much worth seeing.
