This latest hotel is one of the more old-fashioned Premier Inns - I was given a literal physical key, attached to a delightful actual strip of foamboard.

I have only just got back in from the opera.

There's an advert currently, where Ewan McGregor asks 'will you really regret the things you didn't buy [when on your deathbed]? It's making me quite depressed. I regret with real regularity, not buying a fabulous painting I saw in Berlin in 2006. I even took myself for lunch to think about it, and went back a couple of days later thinking 'if it's still there, it's meant to be mine'. It was still there, and I second guessed myself out of buying it again.

I also really miss two matching bleached terracotta urns on thin metal frame/stands, which were a pride and joy, and which I left in my apartment in Athens when I left. Not a week goes by where I don't think how well they'd go in my living room. Over the years, I've tried to find replacements, but none have been quite right. I don't know what I was thinking when I decided not to get them packed up and shipped over. They were another excellent buy.
