| That was much harder work than it sounds. I've had to leave the biggest lawn for next week. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'

| Last yr, we went on two outings, to fancy gardens. Over here, they call it a tour. The first was to Altamont : https://www.dochara.com/places-to-visit/parks-gardens/altamont-house-gardens/ I can't think of the name of the second place right now, but was in Blessington. Anywway, we're going again in a few wks, probably back to Altamont. |

I did that this weekend too! It's like we're living parallel garden lives. When I say I "did" it, I only raked about quarter of one of the two lawns as it's so strenuous. I had also mowed that one lawn (for the first time this season) to make the raking a bit easier. |

| Ohh yeah. I was wondering when it was I did it last year, and whilst I was doing it I remembered about the whole spores time of year thing, hoping I was early enough. I couldn't exactly remember my own advice which I in turn had read about just days before I did it last year. |

| I've given the lawnmower its annual overhaul, mowed all 4 lawns for the first time this year, and dug over the potato bed ready for planting. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'

| I planted the potatoes today. 15 Cara seed potatoes and 4 random potatoes that I uncovered in the bed*, 2nd generation¶ ones from last year, and which had begun sprouting. I also uncovered an unsprouted 2nd generation potato which I made into delicious microwave crisps. * the potato bed, not my bed
¶ By 2nd generation I mean potatoes that grew from the seed potatoes I planted last year, rather than those old seed potatoes themselves. You mustn't eat seed potatoes because they may have been treated with fungicide |

| I've been saved from having to mow the lawn by the appearance of rain.

Indeed it is, like digging for treasure. Though that won't be happening for another 5 or 6 months. |

# I bless the rains down in Anglia... Do you mean "saved" because you don't like mowing? If so, I've gone from hating mowing to relatively enjoying it since I bought a battery powered mower. No dangerous, tangling wires, no petrol spilling everywhere, just a battery (plus a spare one) which charges in about half an hour and lasts for two decent-sized lawns. The mower is also more powerful than you'd expect, light to carry, collects the grass clippings very well and leaves stripes on the lawn. |

| I quite like mowing, it's just one of those things I hate the thought of doing before I do them. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'

| I worked very hard for 2 hours in the garden today. I mowed all the lawns, and savagely cut back the verbena which has become much too dominant. I was amazed how thick the main trunk was, I had to use the pruning knife and then swap it for the bow saw, which is a really serious saw that I bought when I was cutting up that fallen apple tree a while back.
I thought I'd been clever in allowing 45 minutes' pruning, and 45 minutes for shredding the bits, but I spent 65 minutes shredding and had to stop. I estimate there's at least 30 minutes' more shredding to do tomorrow. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'

| I got all dressed up to mow the lawns and then realised it had started raining. So instead I did some pleasantly melancholy hoeing in the gentle rain. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'
