Re: Nightjar Recommends...
The very beginning of that sounds like the very beginning of David Essex's Gonna Make You a Star slowed right down.

I know. I am still haunted by the suspicion that no one listened to my Top 30 recommended Paul McCartney tracks.Nightjar wrote:Bearing in mind that most of recommendations (apart from P-J*bZ's) get met with the silence of the grave...

I may have said this before - and I know that Butterpops obviously knows of her existence - but the aforementioned Butterpops really has to check out all three of Ms. Wrights LPs from the '70s cos they're awesome.
It's true that she was Stevie Wonder's protégé and he does loom quite large over much of these records, but they really are terrific.
Maybe a bit too '70s for Tublets, but amazing and consistent and really, soulfully, playfully, catchily tuneful.

I'm driven to continue recommending Neko Case to Wendi Pops (and anyone who likes this stuff).
She's a wonder.
Here're few quite exemplary, melancholy gems...

Nightjar wrote:Actually, following on from the beforeposted Youtube comment regarding Neko case being the female Morrissey...
That comment came from a track off of her 2002 LP Blacklisted, this one is is off off of of her most recent LP fro off of of 2018.
That actually sounds like immediate-post-Smiths Moz'.
You can just hear him warbling this in his gloomy tones.
What are her opinions on people from Kolkata wearing platform shoes?

Re: Nightjar Recommends...
I would like to recommend to Wendi-Pops the 2019 film Crawl.
I watched it last night and it was good.
A genuinely superior animal attack horror movie.

It looks and sounds like it might have been posted illegally.

They've done that thing of slowing down the sound, to try and get round copyright.

Having looked at it closer, it seems to be a trailer for the film, followed by a totally unrelated film.

It only just came out this year and has been available as an AMZN download for a week or two.
It's got that girl Kaya Scodelario from Skins in it.
It's dead good.

It appears to be a film called The Petal Pushers.

Absolutely nothing to do with Crawl whatsoever.
Not even a similar genre.

Re: Nightjar Recommends...
I highly recommend 'Hansard' at the National. I went last night with my mother, brother and son and we all thought it was completely wonderful and very witty.
You should all get yourselves tickets.
Synopsis courtesy of the NT...
It’s a summer’s morning in 1988 and Tory politician Robin Hesketh has returned home to the idyllic Cotswold house he shares with his wife of 30 years, Diana. But all is not as blissful as it seems. Diana has a stinking hangover, a fox is destroying the garden, and secrets are being dug up all over the place. As the day draws on, what starts as gentle ribbing and the familiar rhythms of marital sparring quickly turns to blood-sport.
A witty and devastating new play.

Re: Nightjar Recommends...
I recall that Wendly-so-and-so wondered whether I knew of any models what might tickle her *****.
Well...
Diana Moldovan?
Hard to believe that someone could have literally 'killer eyes', but...
