Re: Olden day good times!
This is quite fascinating. I considered posted it in the olden day bad times thread as it all looks so crude and hard work, but these tough women seemed happy enough in the video, probably more content than some people today with much more in life.

There was a saying in Liverpool.. about certain women...."She'll be the talk of the Wash House "

Re: Olden day good times!
‘We was ‘appy. All ‘appy. I never did understand why Margaret down the road stuck her head in the oven right after we got gas in the street, and then Ruby and Joan did the same within months’.
‘My Pete was out of work, course he’s been dead for 40 years now, but if it hadn’t been for all the handjobs I gave round the back of the wash house, we’d never have even been able to afford the bus fares to go and see our Terry and our Barry in borstal. Oh they was ‘appy days - me mam lived just round the corner until she dropped dead at 52 - the neighbours had a whip-round for the gravestone’.
‘I’m 90 next month, and I’d love to have a party but everyone who survived lives in Australia - were they not ‘appy here or something? Who knows’.
‘I miss it - sometimes I leave the bathroom window open in January just so I get the warm glow that comes from breaking the ice in the loo in the morning, but it’s not the same with it being indoors’.

Re: Olden day good times!
I found this photo (50s? 60s?)on the interwebs of a chip shop I used to go to in the 80's. It's so weird to see it looking so housey. In my day - eeh by gum when I worra lad- the door was under that 'chicken and chips' sign, with another door up opposite end. The front was all glass.
Here comes an artists impression of how I remember it...
Sadly while still in the 80s, it turned into a place that sells oil and wipers and furry dice and whatever else a car needs.

Re: Olden day good times!
I reckon that picture's as late as the '70s (or even the '80s).
