It gets a bit wearing after a bit I admit.
I think it's because he's white.

He can write clever lyrics and they work by-and-large, but...
He's white.

Sounds like a man on the cusp of going from
to
Problem is, I prefer the early stuff.... It had more fire...
He had the skillz, I guess he got bored. ★★★

That was a record which failed to grip me. I soon began to feel like whoever was making the record was totally wrapped up in a sense of their own self-perceived cleverness.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

It's an album that really flatters to deceive that.
It's triffic for the first half-or-so, but then loses focus and wanders into a hitherto unexpected Baroque Classical meandering that jars simply by nature of not jarring.
Ultimately, it's difficult to judge Gonzales on one record and I've always admired (and enjoyed) his love for and direct engagement with Hip-Hop as an art form, but I feel that this album represents quite well the limits of toying with a genre that demands a lot of respect - a respect that CG can't quite keep up for a whole album simply because he's not a proper rhymer.
He's a brilliant and prodigious dilettante, not a rapper.
