Seems to me, this album is way overproduced. The sparser arrangements on the decidedly less commercial-sounding debut album strike me as much more effective. Forbert's vocals seem hemmed in here by the intrusive, bustling horns. In vain, my brain tries to strip away all unnecessary clutter and focus on Forbert, which rapidly becomes an exercise in frustration. Others will, no doubt, experience it differently.
