The Beat of the Truncations, eh? I've run out of things to say.

A kind of Southern African lilt with an overbearing Salsa brass section.

It's so desperately busy and shrilly produced that it really grates on the nerves.
It really sounds like a band that thinks it's moved on from it's roots into a whole new world of Latin Jazz sophistication.

Re: The Beat – Special Beat Service (1982)
There was a lot of groups that started off promisingly in the post-punk boom, and went off a bit. The Gang of Four, Killing Joke, New Order Even Scritti Pollitti had a good couple of singles,
I don't know why I mentioned that.

This is better. The songwriting sounds more disciplined.

Hints of Bobby Digital style sound.
Well, and 80s reggae sound. Only the over produced stuff they've slapped on top.

A bit conspicuous this abrupt switch to agricultural UK Reggae.

This seems to have the band's trademark trundling rhythm.
